Abstract

The comprehensive intervention, which includes treatment modalities such as psychopharmacotherapy, psychosocial rehabilitation, and community support has become an essential element in the care of persons with long-term and disabling mental illness. Hospital has very important position to conduct both pharmacotherapy and psychiatric rehabilitation.
The development of hospital based psychosocial rehabilitation is the first step to those of community based rehabilitation. The specific psychosocial rehabilitation components which can be conducted within hospital are patient education, family education, social skills training, activity therapy, vocational rehabilitation. Team approach and the role specialization of mental health professionals such as psychiatrists, clinical psychologists, psychiatric social workers, and psychiatric nurses is very urgent action to overcome the lack of resources in Korea.
